USA 2004 Planned Itinerary
Days 5-8. Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, Flagstaff, Meteor Crater, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell
Interactive Map of Arizona

| DAY 5
First, this morning, will be HolbrookV (whoo) and, no doubts about it, a stop and photo opportunity at the Wigwam Motel*V. Then off to the Petrified Forest! :) After that, to Meteor CraterV*. On the way back, if we have time, a quick look at Two Guns ghost town and/or Walnut Canyon*,
before we turn off to Sedona* and a two-night stop. |
|
| We're staying at the Hyatt Pinon Pointe*, which is such an incredible find, I had to do a page of photos! Sleeps up to 8 in 2 bedrooms and a sitting room - also private terrace, kitchen, dining room and bathroom with whirlpool bath!! And dead central!! Maybe up to the airport road*, for the sunset over the red rocks. There's an option of a cookout, at the Blazin' M Ranch Chuckwagon - although I think that the Rainbows End Steakhouse and Saloon might be better! Or how about the Cowboy Club for cactus fries and rattlesnake??
Check out the stars on here!

DAY 6
Today we can relax as much as we like - but there's still lots to do and see if we want! Priority will be to drive through Oak Creek Canyon*, to Flagstaff* and maybe the Galaxy Diner and The Lowell ObservatoryV* .
Also, today, we need to have a squiz at Tlaquepaque*. And we must not forget Red Rock Crossing - a MUST! I think that the Pink Jeep Tours, although highly recommended, are a bit pricey. Or how about a 2-hour horse ride with Trailhorse Adventures? That way you get to RIDE across the creek! :) Or there's a 1-hour ride at the M Diamond Ranch.
|
| DAY 7
An exciting day today - Grand Canyon*! Maybe we will have time for a look at Sunset CraterV* this morning (virtual tour of the Lava Flow Trail), and then over the San Francisco Peaks (and the Arizona Snowbowl?). Stop at Bedrock City*, Valle, to say hello to Fred and Wilma, perhaps! ($5.00 and worth it as it is, apparently, so shoddy). Maybe not!
| Then, to the Grand Canyon* itself! Should we take a plane ride or anything? (No, probably not - a bit expensive!). | |
| We are staying at the Kachina Lodge* in a canyonside room, just feet from the edge! I'm rather excited about this as we were originally booked in for the Yavapai, but I then found a vacancy here! Maybe we can eat at the El Tovar Hotel - although it's a bit pricey (although they have free coffee on their balcony mornings! In the lobby - up the stairs!). Maybe the Bright Angel Restaurant or Arizona Room then. Anyway, we will be 'right there' to see the sunset and sunrise (perhaps!) and will have chance to do at least a little of the Bright Angel Trail (like perhaps a few yards!!)
(Someone's photos on here).
|
| DAY 8
Presuming we've seen all of the Grand Canyon* we want to, it's a quick breakfast and then off on the Desert View Drive* and the famous Watchtower* - and then on to the equally famous, Cameron Trading Post*.
| When we get to the junction with highways 89 and 160, we will have a decision to make. Do we turn up to go straight to Lake Powell*, passing the dinosaur prints and Horseshoe Bend on the way and perhaps a boat trip on the lake, or do we drive on and have a look at Monument Valley* first? Depends how we feel, I suppose! | |
| But we will, eventually, reach beautiful Lake Powell - if we ever manage to get over the Glan Canyon Dam Bridge*, that is! Eeeeek! | |
| We are staying over night in the Wahweap Lodge*, on Wahweap Marina - a room with a lake view! Plenty of eateries around - but will definitely take a boat-trip if time. | |
